"Yes, I would like to be on your podcast!"

In June, I had the distinct honor of being a guest on two podcasts! They were educational and fun experiences for me, and I wanted to share a bit more about the interviews with you.

Podcast Interview #1: Public Health Epidemiology Careers Podcast

Discussion Topic: My public health journey from the Peace Corps to Consultant.

Dr. Huntly is the host of this podcast, and she is a true public health leader. Whether you are a public health student or a seasoned professional in the field, her podcast is for you! Dr. Huntly devotes her heart and soul to providing opportunities for professional growth.

A highlight of this interview for me was talking about my experiences as a volunteer and how those experiences not only confirmed my aspiration to pursue a career in public health, but also how the Peace Corps provided me a perspective and understanding of health disparities I couldn’t have received elsewhere. And then years later, I “fell into” public health consulting, a career choice that is perfectly suited for my passion and my professional goals.

Podcast Interview #2: Bloodstream Media “Ask the Expert” Podcast

Discussion Topic: How gender bias impacts women’s health and the ways CVH Consulting is addressing it.

Amy Board, my warm and enthusiastic host from the Bloodstream Media group, is a former colleague of mine and it was wonderful to reconnect with her. She made the process easy and fun, and that’s no easy task given the heaviness and complexity of the topic.

During the “Ask the Expert” podcast I dive into the deep history of bias in our healthcare, and the training solutions I’ve created to help folks navigate through the system. We know that women and people from marginalized groups are more likely to experience mistreatment including being dismissed or misdiagnosed when presenting to a physician. I walk listeners through this systemic issue, and offer them the tools to understand how to identify bias, and how to relate to our doctors in a way that will help folks to be heard.

Note: This podcast’s target audience is for those living with bleeding disorders, but the information provided is general and anyone can benefit from the discussion.
